WineFest 2018 will be Party Time (Excellent!) when Wayne and Garth warm up the couch for three days of Wine’s World. This year’s event features bites from local independent restaurants, sips from the finest wineries, an exclusive evening of wine and food pairings, and a very special screening of this year’s theme film.
On Thursday, March 1, enjoy a "Movie Under The Stars" with a special screening of the Mike Myers/Dana Carvey classic Wayne's World at 7:30pm.
The Theatre’s historic stage will be expanded to seat more than 275 for the elegant Wine Pairing on Friday, March 2. The multi-course menu, created and catered by Mise En Place chef Marty Blitz, will feature delectable small plates expertly paired with exquisite wines.
A two-tiered Wine Tasting on Saturday, March 3 invites you to taste dozens of boutique wines, sample favorite fare from Tampa’s top independent restaurants and bid on premium silent auction items representing Bay area retailers, restaurants, services and attractions.
And though the theme may be silly, WineFest’s purpose is most serious: now in its 16th year, WineFest is the landmark theatre’s biggest annual fundraiser. Event chair Michael Stanton notes that Tampa Theatre is “magically babelicious” (as far as majestic movie palaces go), and “basically it costs nothing to operate a dynamic film and cultural center 365 days a year for the benefit of the communty… NOT.”
“Actually,” Stanton says, “the WineFest committee gets to create these excellent annual events that benefit the historic movie palace’s artistic, educational and community programs, as well as the 90-year-old movie palace’s ongoing preservation and restoration. We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!”
