Monday, November 18, 1963 was a historic day for the Tampa Bay area.
Our sleepy southern city was suddenly thrust into the national spotlight when the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, came to town. It was the first time a sitting President visited Tampa. Tens of thousands turned out to see his motorcade as it traveled 28 miles through the city. JFK rode in the very same convertible he would use in Dallas…just four days later.
But JFK in Tampa: The 50th Anniversary isn’t about conspiracy theories or the assassination. This one-hour documentary, written and produced by Lynn Marvin Dingfelder in partnership with WUSF Public Media, combines rare film footage of President Kennedy’s Tampa speeches, unique photos, home movies and first-hand accounts. It’s a video time capsule that revives and preserves the otherwise forgotten stories of journalists, secret service agents, dignitaries who rode alongside and shared the stage with Kennedy, and the regular people of Tampa who were there.
Before the film, join filmmaker Lynn Dingfelder and members of JFK’s secret service detail who were with him in Tampa for a special VIP reception starting at 5:30 p.m.. Tickets are $125 and include a signed copy of the book Kennedy Detail.
