The powerful tycoon and bullion dealer Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) has initiated Operation Grand Slam, a mad scheme to raid Fort Knox, destroy all the gold and thereby crater the world economy. James Bond, armed with his specially equipped Aston Martin and devastating charm, must stop the plan by defeating Goldfinger’s bizarre henchmen like the infamous Oddjob, dodging laser beams, and making a personal connection with Godlfinger’s personal pilot, Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman).
Goldfinger was the third main-continuity Bond film but the first to fully embody what the series would later be known for: thrilling action with a side of humor, intriguing devices, a charismatic villain, and a dashing spy/playboy James Bond chasing unfortunately-named women. It was also the series’ first real blockbuster, grossing more than the first two combined. If you’re only ever going to see one James Bond movie, but you want to know what the half-century of fuss is about, you could do a lot worse than to make it Goldfinger.
This film is part of a day-long BOND-A-THON to celebrate our upcoming WineFest 2019: VINO ROYALE. Tickets are $10 per film, and a Bond-A-Thon Pass for all three films is $25. (Theatre Members pay $7 per film or $20 for the Pass.)
