Best In Show (2000)

1h 30m / PG-13 / Comedy

Dates and Times

Director Christopher Guest and his cast of brilliant improv comedians are at their best skewering a subculture when the people invested in that subculture take themselves particularly seriously. It’s true of This Is Spinal Tap and rock musicians; it’s true of Waiting for Guffmann and community theatre actors. But it’s most hilariously true of Best in Show and the denizens of dog shows. Following five dogs and their unbelievable owners as they make their way to (and then compete in) the Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show, Best in Show is a loving and lighthearted take on how loving something so much can sometimes lead you to a really silly place.

Best In Show is presented as part of Tampa Theatre’s new CinemaSTEM series, which pairs popular movies with experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math to lead a post-show talk and audience Q&A about a STEM-related aspect of the film.

After the screening, Jay Stutz – the ‎Assistant Curator of Zoological Operations at Busch Gardens Tampa – will discuss the psychology of training “man’s best friend” and offer a few tips for coaching your canine friends at home. Jay is a nationally recognized animal behaviorist, and was the former host of television’s Good Dog U on Animal Planet.

Tickets are $10 for adults / $8 for kids ages 2-12 / $7 for Tampa Theatre Members.
