Flipper (1963)

1h 27m / G / Drama

Dates and Times

Filmed in the Keys and other Florida locations, Flipper is the story of Sandy, a boy who nurses an injured dolphin (the titular Flipper) back to health against the wishes of his fisherman father (Chuck Connors of The Rifleman fame) who sees dolphins as competition for dwindling fish stocks. The two come to share a powerful friendship that can still teach us all something about the intelligence and affection of animals. The movie was co-created by Ricou Browning, who played the Creature in Creature from the Black Lagoon, so he knew a little something about acting underwater; Flipper was played by a female dolphin named Mitzie, one of the first true animal stars. It’s a Florida picture through and through!
