Home Alone is undeniably a modern Christmas standby, which makes a couple of facts especially interesting. For one, it remained successful long after the holiday season ended (the year of its release, it was still in the top ten at the box office in the last week of April); for another, it doesn’t really have to be set at Christmas. The hilarious and heartwarming story of Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) left behind at home while his parents and extended family travel to Paris, and his fight with the silly Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), Home Alone would be a family comedy classic no matter when it was set. The script relies on a precocious and comfortable star-turn from Culkin, and this story of remembering the love you have for your family will be timeless for generations to come.
