Mr. Gaga (2016)

1h 40m / Not Rated / Documentary

Dates and Times

The “most exciting documentary for fans of edgier modern dance since Pina” (Variety), Mr. Gaga is a biographical study of celebrated Israeli dancer and choreographer Ohad Naharin. Powerful, athletic and magnetically charismatic into his mid-sixties, Naharin is a character of such intense dramatic weight that if he weren’t a real person, a movie about a dance genius would almost have to be invented for him.

Naharin grew up on a kibbutz and didn’t begin dancing until the relatively advanced age of 22. His career has moved him from work with Martha Graham to creating his own prestigious troupe, to his vital partnership with his wife, Mari – herself a former leading dancer in the Alvin Ailey company. Punctuated with film footage from every different phase of his life, Mr. Gaga is a must-see movie for fans of modern dance or for anyone interested in how creative brilliance manifests itself at the highest possible levels.
