Wayne’s World (1992)

1h 34m / PG-13 / Comedy

Dates and Times

Arguably the best of the big screen spin-offs based on Saturday Night Live skits, Wayne’s World stars Mike Myers as Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey as his adorkable sidekick Garth, a pair of longhaired, guitar-strumming teenagers who hosted a cable-access TV show (because that’s what kids did before podcasting was invented) out of Wayne’s basement. But when sleazy ad exec Ben Oliver (Rob Lowe) puts the moves on the show and then Wayne’s girlfriend, the boys decide that even backstage passes to Alice Cooper aren’t worth selling out.

But the best moments of Wayne’s World – which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year – have nothing to do with the somewhat predictable plot. Can you get through Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” without head-banging a bit in the middle? Of course not, and you have Wayne’s World to thank – that scene helped put the song back on the charts 17 years after its first release. Wayne’s deadpan riff on product placement earned every penny of that sponsorship money, and out-of-character cameos by Cooper and Ed O’Neill (Married, With Children) are almost as awesome as the movie’s soundtrack album.

And if you’ve ever responded “…NOT!” or “yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt,” well, you heard it here first. Party on, Tampa Theatre.

And with the stage deck already in place for the rest of the weekend's festivities, you can opt for sitting upstairs for $10 ($7 for Tampa Theatre Members) or the *We’re Not Worthy* VIP ticket for $25, which gets you a spot on the deck for your blanket or lawn chair PLUS unlimited beer and crullers at the exclusive deck-side bar.
