Just 10 days after launching its first-ever crowdfunding project, Tampa Theatre celebrated success over the holiday weekend as the counter on its Power2Give.org page reached 100%.
On Sunday evening, Aug. 31, the final donation came in to top off the historic Theatre’s $10,000 campaign to purchase a new, larger popcorn machine for the concessions stand.
The current popper is more than 15 years old, and it has begun to show its age. Most recently, a motor malfunction and a fire in the oil pump cost the non-profit Theatre nearly $2,000 in maintenance and repairs. On Aug. 21, the Theatre launched a campaign through Power2Give.org that invited patrons to contribute “a little or a lot” toward the purchase of a new popcorn machine.
Now that the goal has been reached, the Theatre will be placing an order for a Gold Medal model #2911ENB, which features a 52oz kettle capable of producing 10 gallons of popcorn at a time — almost twice the Theatre’s current capacity per batch. Increased capacity, the Theatre promises, will mean faster-moving lines at the concessions stand during high-attendance films and events.
The new popper should be delivered in 6-8 weeks, and installation will necessitate some modifications to the current cabinets behind the concessions stand. Patrons can look forward to enjoying Tampa Theatre’s fresh, hot and famous popcorn out of the new kettle in time for the busy holiday season.
Like Bogie and Bacall… Like Laurel and Hardy… Like Astaire and Rogers… Tampa Theatre and great popcorn are a perfect pair.
