Fantastic Fungi (2020)

1h 20m / Not Rated / Documentary

Before COVID-19 closed many of us temporarily, the art house cinema community was planning to bring back the surprise hit of the holiday season, Fantastic Fungi, for a special one-day, nationwide re-release on Thursday, March 26.

Instead, Fantastic Fungi Day is going virtual! Our partners at Area 23a Films are making the film available to stream via Vimeo link and are offering three opportunities to live-chat with filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg and the documentary’s subject, mycologist Paul Stamets, LIVE via Zoom. Click the link below to purchase a “virtual ticket” to view the movie and sign up for your choice of Q&A sessions.

PS… ignore the showtimes at right. We have to put something in there to make this show up on our home page! – TT Team

Fantastic Fungi is a vivid journey into the mysterious subterranean world of mycelium and its fruit— the mushroom. A story that begins 3.5 billion years ago, fungi makes the soil that supports life, connecting vast systems of roots from plants and trees all over the planet, like an underground Internet.

Through the eyes of renowned mycologist Paul Stamets, professor of forest ecology Suzanne Simard, best-selling author Michael Pollan, food naturalist Eugenia Bone and others, we experience the power, beauty and complexity of the fungi kingdom. The film is a blueprint for what connects all humanity and the natural world. There is much to learn from the world of mycelium and Fantastic Fungi is an inspiring place to begin the process of bringing us together as interconnected creators of our world.

The film’s distributor will be splitting the revenue with Tampa Theatre. Please note that this arrangement, in these unprecedented times, means that we are unable to offer Member pricing for virtual screenings. Thanks for your understanding, and THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING TO SUPPORT TAMPA THEATRE!
