Produced by Diablo Cody, Forbidden Fruits is set in an alternate reality where brick-and-mortar retail still exists. Three glamorous and motivated women named after fruits work at a high-end clothing store in the mall, but that’s really just a cover to rob customers and conduct snappy, stylish, Gen-Z-tinted rituals in the basement. As in all good films in the coven-core canon (like The Craft, The Bling Ring and Mean Girls), they attempt to indoctrinate a new girl but soon she learns the dark truth of their activities, and they fall victim to their own various desires (and spells). Tightly layered with reference but candy-sweet, nostalgic but with knives out for the past as it was actually lived, and entirely impossible to imagine being experienced in five years — it’s the Dubai chocolate of movies!
