Sing-Along White Christmas (1954)
White Christmas is most famous for its namesake song “White Christmas,” which was written for the movie … Holiday Inn. But in the twelve years since that movie came out, it had already become an enormous hit, so setting a new movie around it seemed obvious — and sure enough, White Christmas is a loose thematic remake of Holiday Inn. When you have Irving Berlin ready to write another movie musical for you, you just say yes. Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen are captivating as matched pairs of entertainers caught up in cute misunderstandings as they strive for stardom and travel the road to love.
And for the first time, Tampa Theatre is showing the sing-along version, so now you can add your own voices to standards like “Sisters,” “Count Your Blessings,” “Snow” and “White Christmas” itself!
This year’s Holiday Classics series is presented by Bank of America, with promotional support from WEDU PBS.
