SCHEDULE:

• Pop into the John T. Taylor Screening Room to catch a short film. Content will screen on a loop for you to come and go as you please.
• Enjoy complimentary light snacks from 4Rivers BBQ.
• Sample a Birdcage-themed cocktail provided by Breakthru Beverage Florida.
• Explore the majestic building on your own or participate in a mini theatre tour.
• Play games for a chance to spin the prize wheel.
• Complimentary soda, popcorn, coffee and water at the concessions stand (until 2:30pm).

FILM SYNOPSIS:

The Birdcage (1996)

Armand Goldman (Robin Williams) owns the hottest drag nightclub in South Beach, The Birdcage. His long-time lover, Albert (Nathan Lane), is the star performer — the fantastic and flamboyant Starina. The rest of their household consists of their hilarious Guatemalan housekeeper Agador (Hank Azaria) and their son Val, Armand’s biological son from a heterosexual one-night stand 20 years ago, who is now living on his own.

Then one day, Val comes home to announce that he’s engaged to marry Barbara Keeley (Calista Flockhart), daughter of Kevin Keeley (Gene Hackman), U.S. Senator and co-founder of the Committee for Moral Order, and his wife Louise (Dianne Wiest). Senator Keeley is currently embroiled in a seedy scandal, as co-founders of committees for moral order so frequently are, and won’t approve of the marriage until he can meet the parents. So Barbara crafts a story about her soon-to-be in-laws, and now Armand and Albert must pretend to be boring, uncontroversial, and above all, straight. Adapted from the 1978 French film La Cage aux Folles by the brilliant team of Mike Nichols and Elaine May, The Birdcage is a sweet and uproarious comedy about hilarious pretzels families will tie themselves into to make their children happy.

This screening is held in the Historic Duncan Auditorium. This space utilizes open seating for this event, seat selection is not required.
